Victorian Grace and Elegance

As you enter The Queen On Main it is almost as though stepping back in time to the Victorian era. Victorians were known for their appreciation of fine art and furnishings. A spacious two bedroom, two bath, historic Queen Anne Victorian- with over sized rooms throughout- the home is welcoming and has a certain warmth to it that is hard to explain and is best experienced.

In the entry hall is a nineteenth century European, walnut antique hall tree. It is the perfect place to pause to hang your coat, hat and purse. Note the antique lithographs on the opposing wall of the old town of Winters in it's earliest of days.

The Front Parlor

The front parlor was a place in every Victorian home where guests were received but Victorians were notorious for multi use purposes to their rooms. For the family who lived here the room would provide a place to sit and read by it's fireplace or to play a game of chess and to gather.

Like stepping into a time warp, the main parlor is filled with period antiques. Acquired from it's original owner's great, great granddaughter the late nineteenth century sideboard arrived in California via wagon train from Indiana! The painting over the fireplace set the theme and color scheme for the home. Known for their handmade high end pieces, Royal Furniture Company provided fine furnishing for the wealthiest households. The The Royal Furniture antique secretary dates back to 1914. It is a solid piece that took four men to move into it's place.

The Gentlemen's Parlor

Pocket doors lead from the Front Parlor in to the Gentlemen's Parlor. Masculine furnishings provide a comfortable place to sit and read, listen to some music, do some office work or in our contemporary world, watch TV. The dramatic burnt umber wall color, the cow hide floor covering, the leather chairs and the warm wood tones and reproduction period artwork give the room a feeling of bygone days. Once you sit down in this room you won't want to leave. You may wonder where the whiskey and cigars are... (this is a non smoking home.)

The Dining Room

The dining room is furnished in American golden oak antique furniture. Most of it is from the early twentieth century. Sears and Montgomery Ward catalogs offered a variety of these type of furnishings. The dining room table has embellished carving and a sweet scallop edge. The table will seat up to eight with a leaf. A carved display case is used for showcasing antique and vintage pieces. An acron embellished carved mirror doubles as a coat and hat rack. An Albert Bierstadt reproduction painting hangs above an unusual antique curved front, fan backed sideboard that provides a serving surface as well as additional storage. A beautiful still life painting with an antique ornately carved frame provides color in the room. All of it comes together to create an inviting, comfortable place to enjoy a meal.

There is a set of china in the sideboard, crystal wine glasses, silver, china and glass serving dishes, everything you need for an elegant memorable evening dining in.

The Kitchen

Bright and fresh the kitchen is fully equipped with everything one might need to prepare meals... just like at home. Crisp white and baby blue cabinets lend a freshness to the kitchen. An antique side table provides an additional table top. Antique bone china tea cups sit above the sink on a tiled shelf with dainty lace curtains as a backdrop.
